The Department of Clinical Psychology is dedicated to advancing mental health education, training, and research through its comprehensive academic programs — M.Sc. Clinical Psychology and M.Phil. Clinical Psychology, both affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru.

The department is committed to nurturing competent, ethical, and empathetic mental health professionals equipped with strong theoretical knowledge and practical clinical skills. With the support of our own psychiatric hospital, students receive extensive hands-on clinical exposure, engaging in assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy, and rehabilitation under expert supervision.

The department regularly organizes workshops, seminars, case conferences, and community outreach programs to enhance professional learning and social responsibility. Through a blend of academic rigor, clinical training, and research orientation, the department strives to contribute meaningfully to the field of mental health and the well-being of the community.

History

  • Established in 2019 and started the post-graduate course M.Sc Clinical Psychology in the same year.
  • Currently the 5th batch of post-graduation students is undergoing training, with 25 graduates successfully completing the program so far.
  • Secured 17 university ranks in 5 years, including State Level First Rank consecutively for three years since 2021.
  • Proudly holds a 100% placement record.
  • Launched M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology in 2022, recognized by the RCI and affiliated with RGUHS, with 12 seats per batch.
  • Achieved 100% results in the first batch of M.Phil. Clinical Psychology exams.
  • Currently has 20 M.Sc. students and 24 M.Phil. trainees under training.
  • Attached to Manasa Nursing Home, a 150-bedded psychiatric hospital with neurology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation, de-addiction, and child guidance clinics.
  • Students receive one-to-one supervised clinical exposure, guided by experienced faculty, fostering personal and professional growth.

Services Provided

The Department of Clinical Psychology offers a range of services aimed at assessing, diagnosing, and treating various mental health issues.

Psychological Assessment

Comprehensive evaluations to assess psychological functioning, including cognitive, neuropsychological, learning disability, disability assessment and certification, personality traits, diagnostic, and behavioral assessments. These assessments support accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

Psychotherapy & Counseling

Evidence-based psychotherapy, counseling, and interventions are provided to individuals (from children to elderly), couples, families, and groups. These sessions help clients overcome psychological difficulties, manage stress, improve coping mechanisms, and enhance overall mental well-being.

Diagnostic Evaluation

The department provides intensive training in diagnosing psychiatric, neurological, and neurosurgical conditions. Standardized psychological and diagnostic tools are utilized to ensure accurate evaluation and case management.

Treatment Planning & Intervention

Based on assessment outcomes, personalized treatment plans are developed to meet each client’s specific needs. These include psychotherapy, counseling, psychiatric rehabilitation, and medication management in collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals.

Tele-Counselling Services

A full-fledged tele-counselling unit provides immediate psychological support, crisis management, and psychological first aid, ensuring accessibility across geographical boundaries.

Crisis Intervention

The department provides rapid psychological support during crises or psychiatric emergencies, working in collaboration with emergency services and crisis helplines to ensure timely intervention and stabilization.

Consultation and Collaboration

Collaboration with healthcare professionals, schools, organizations, and social services ensures holistic care. Partnerships include general physicians, pediatricians, social workers, welfare organizations, women protection cells, prisons, and juvenile homes, enhancing the scope and quality of mental health services.

Preventive Mental Health Services

Preventive programs promote mental well-being, reduce psychological risks, and enhance resilience. Activities include awareness programs, screening, psychoeducation, stress management, and skill-building sessions conducted in educational, corporate, and community settings.

Research and Development

The department is actively engaged in scientific and innovative research aligned with global standards. Emphasis is placed on advancing mental health and interdisciplinary studies, conducting clinical trials, outcome studies, tool development, and program evaluations. The goal is to contribute to evidence-based practices and generate impactful scientific publications.
